Overheard during the Nathan’s Famous International July 4th Hot Dog Eating Contest.
“You Google ‘Hero’ tomorrow, ‘American hero,’ you’re gonna get Abe Lincoln, possibly Neil Armstrong, Taylor Hicks, and then this man, of course, Joey Chestnut*.
Yeah, those are MY American heroes. Oh, and William Katt
and then a little later this lovely “chestnut” as well (heh)…
“This would be the greatest moment in the history of American sports if Chestnut could bring the belt home to Coney Island, it’s been gone for nine years.”
and I think I’ll sleep a little better tonight knowing our country is a little better off …
“Unbelievable valor from that man Joey Chestnut. He may indeed have changed the course of this nation. Righted the course of our nation. Chestnut is a true American hero”
I still think William Katt could kick his ass. If he could ever figure out how to fly in a straight line.
Oh, and Happy Fourth of July!
* Joey Chestnut is a Civil Engineering major from San Jose State University. So let’s hear it for the local boy. Woo hoo!!
PS – Thanx WIFE for stealing my thunder. 🙂
2007-04-27 good advice
I read this brief article about what appears to be a BIG problem of some missing bees in America. Tens of BILLIONS. Or, it should be said… Billion and Billions (sorry to Carl Sagan too). heh.
But the only thing that was going through my head while reading it?
“So Long and Thanks for All the …” honey.
HEY!!! That’s not nice.
While filling out an online form today, I was presented with what we in the web biz call a CAPTCHA image. It’s one of those graphics that has text you need to confirm. The text is either distorted, covered with lines, shapes, or colors, or even both. It is presented in such a way as to obscure the text enough so that a computer can’t automatically guess what it says. They’ve become quite popular and for good reason. They work. But what happens when they start fighting back, or at least letting you know how they feel about you.
I kid you not, this is what it asked me to confirm…
My buddy Dave just posted this video to YouTube. I had completely forgotten about it! Totally takes me back… Here’s the story, as Dave puts it…
This is an old PSA (1993) for the Church of Latter Day Saints. Not that I’m big into that cause, but the story behind this PSA for me…
Back when I worked at WEEK, sometimes our newscasts would run short. When they did, we would add a station promo or PSA to fill time. When we discovered this gem, it became a favorite of the crew and we would run it whenever we could. The 60 version is a lot better than the 30… it features extra rejections.
